Stephen Goldsmith
Chairman of the Board, Corporation for National and Community Service
Stephen Goldsmith is the Chairman Emeritus of the Manhattan Institute's Center for Civic Innovation. While serving two terms as Mayor of Indianapolis, Mr. Goldsmith earned a national reputation for innovations in government. As Mayor of America's 12th largest city, he transformed the delivery of city services. His efforts to revitalize urban neighborhoods through creating partnerships with community organizations have been held up as a national model. More importantly, prior to his terms as Mayor he was Marion County District Attorney for 12 years, where he led a national effort to elevate the importance of child support. These efforts included pioneering efforts in automation, fatherhood initiatives and collections, lead him to receive many national awards. Collections increased during his term from $900,000 a year to almost 40 million. Stephen formerly served as Special Advisor to President Bush on faith-based and not-for-profit initiatives and chief domestic policy advisor to the Bush campaign.
Currently he serves as Chairman, Corporation for National and Community Service, and is the Daniel Paul Professor of Government at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, where he directs the Innovations in American Government Program.
