Americans need effective government. Every day, we rely on our federal government to deliver vital services, and emerging challenges such as the threat of terrorism and globalization intensify the need for our government to act on the most pressing problems facing our nation.
“An Urgent Need for Action” received a 2006 Telly Award, which honor outstanding local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.

2005 Call to Service Medal Recipient
Achievement: Developed the Office of Anti-Terrorism, which was created soon after 9/11 to help better secure the nation’s ports and borders from terrorists and terrorist weapons.
Barbara Turner
2005 Career Acheivement Medal Recipient
Achievement: Worked her way up to the highest levels at USAID where she has played a critical role in the Agency’s work in Egypt, the former Soviet Union, Bosnia and multiple other countries.
Terence Lutes
2005 Citizen Services Medal Recipient
Achievement: Led the development of the popular eFile system that has allowed millions of Americans to get their tax refunds in as few as 10 days, while also cutting processing costs for government by as much as 90 percent.

Achievement: Developed two of the country’s most effective emergency preparedness organizations in the public health field.

Achievement: Led investigation that resulted in the conviction of more than a dozen leaders of the “November 17” Group—Europe’s most notorious and elusive terrorist group.
Nicole Nelson-Jean
2004 Call to Service Medal Recipient
Achievement: Led U.S. delegation to the Arctic Circle for negotiations with Russian officials to better secure Russia’s nuclear materials and weapons. This agreement led to the creation of a service and training center for nuclear material and weapons security in Murmansk, Russia.

2004 Career Acheivement Medal Recipient
Achievement: Guided U.S. Embassy in Kenya through the 1998 bombing and was a leading voice in the U.S. government urging a response to the ethnic genocide in Rwanda.
FTC Do Not Call Team led by Eileen Harrington
2004 Citizen Services Medal Recipient
Achievement: Developed and implemented the federal Do Not Call Registry, which has reduced the number of telemarketing calls for more than 60 million Americans.

2004 Homeland Security Medal Recipient
Achievement: Oversaw the federal government’s recovery efforts in New York after 9/11 and supervised other FEMA rebuilding work in the wake of multiple natural disasters.

2004 International Affairs Medal Recipient
Achievement: Led U.S. efforts to help Iraqis rebuild their electrical infrastructure and acted as the Administrative head of multiple Iraqi ministries; also led Army Corps of Engineers’ recovery efforts at Ground Zero.
