PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STATEMENT APPLAUDING SENATOR VOINOVICH

WASHINGTON – Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement today in response to Senator Voinovich’s announcement that he will retire at the end his term in 2010:

“Beyond his outstanding service to the people of Ohio, Senator Voinovich has worked on behalf of all Americans. He brought to the United States Senate his vast experience as a mayor and governor, and dedicated himself to enhancing government effectiveness. Successfully improving government management is little noticed and does not win elections, but that never stopped Senator Voinovich. He has worked tirelessly to make our government work better, and nowhere has his impact been more significant, and lasting, than in his efforts to improve the federal workforce.

Senator Voinovich came to Washington committed to rolling up his sleeves and working in partnership with federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, the private sector, federal employee representatives and the dedicated men and women of the civil service to ensure that employees are empowered to do their best in serving the American people. The list of federal management improvements championed by Senator Voinovich is long and impressive, and if we know Senator Voinovich, he will add to that list before he retires from the Senate.

While Senator Voinovich’s pending retirement is certainly a loss to the American people, we note that he has nearly two years before the end of his term. A public servant with the talent, integrity and determination of Senator Voinovich can get a lot done in two years.”
