PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE AND PRIVATE SECTOR COUNCIL JOIN FORCES

New Collaboration Builds on Growing Momentum Behind Cause of Improving Government Performance

Washington, D.C. – The cause of improving government performance has been gaining momentum in recent years, with more positive changes happening in the last three years than in the last 25 years.  This effort received a major boost today when two major contributors to that momentum — the Partnership for Public Service and the Private Sector Council — announced that they were merging their organizations.

“I am excited about what our two organizations can do better together to help advance the cause of effective government,” said Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service. “This collaboration exemplifies what we have long believed:  business has an important role in strengthening our public service.”

“This partnership is a win-win for both organizations.  By joining forces, the Partnership for Public Service will enrich its existing partnerships with federal agencies and the Private Sector Council will greatly expand its reach in sharing business best practices with the public sector,” said Pete Smith, president and CEO of the Private Sector Council.

Founded in 1983, the Private Sector Council, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to helping improve the management, efficiency and productivity of the federal government, was created by David Packard of Hewlett-Packard.  PSC shares the expertise of leading Fortune 500 executives with federal agency leaders to help improve the services government provides to the nation.

“Having worked with both of these organizations, I know this is a big win for the federal community.  The combination of PSC's private sector expertise and the Partnership's extensive outreach activities will create a powerful ally for effective government,” said David Walker, Comptroller General of the United States and a member of the Partnership's Board of Governors.

PSC will continue to carry out its mission as a program of the Partnership for Public Service.  The Partnership for Public Service, established in 2001, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing government service.
