PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE MOURNS LOSS OF FOUNDING CHAIRMAN SAMUEL J. HEYMAN

WASHINGTON – The Partnership for Public Service today announced the death of its founding Chairman, Samuel J. Heyman, noted philanthropist and businessman, on Saturday, November 7. Mr. Heyman founded the Partnership in 2001 to inspire a new generation into public service and to transform the business of government.

Max Stier, president and CEO of the organization, issued the following statement:

“Samuel J. Heyman was a bold and visionary philanthropist who saw that a path to great social change was to invest in the capacity of our nation’s government. He conceived of an organization that would restore prestige to government service and inspire a new generation into its ranks. Mr. Heyman never shrank from a challenge, and the Partnership benefited tremendously from his bold leadership as Chairman, his vision and his support.

All of us at the Partnership extend our condolences to Mr. Heyman’s family and to all the people Mr. Heyman’s generosity has touched throughout the years. He will be greatly missed.”

In addition to establishing the Partnership for Public Service in 2001, Mr. Heyman’s other charitable contributions include creation of The Heyman Fellowship Program at Harvard Law School to help graduating law students enter public service, establishment of The Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Center on Corporate Governance at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and the Heyman Center on Ethics, Public Policy and the Professions at Duke University. Mr. Heyman also established fellowship opportunities to promote public service at Yale University and Seton Hall. For his extraordinary commitment to public service, President George W. Bush presented Mr. Heyman with the Presidential Citizens Medal in 2008.

Mr. Heyman’s commitment to public service began with his own government service at the U.S. Department of Justice during the Kennedy Administration.
