GOOD GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS COMMEND SEN. AKAKA AND REP. LYNCH FOR SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON OUR NATION’S PUBLIC SERVANTS
Washington, D.C. –A coalition of 17 good government organizations convened by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today commended Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) and Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-MA) for introducing companion resolutions to honor our nation’s public servants during Public Service Recognition Week, beginning May 3rd.
On behalf of the good government organizations, Max Stier, Partnership for Public Service president and CEO said, “Amidst the rising chorus of anti-government sentiment it’s important that our nation’s public servants hear another message as well – one of thanks. Public servants are on the frontlines guarding our national security, caring for veterans, rebuilding economic prosperity and delivering important services to the American people.
We commend Senator Akaka and Congressman Lynch for their leadership in introducing companion resolutions to shine a spotlight on the important work of our nation’s federal, state, county and local government employees during Public Service Recognition Week. Senator Akaka and Congressman Lynch’s actions send a powerful message to the American people about the importance of having a strong civil service.”
The coalition also commends cosponsors of the companion resolutions, including Senators George Voinovich (R-OH), Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Carper (D-DE), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Roland Burris (D-IL), and Edward E. Kaufman (D-DE), and Representatives Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), Danny Davis (D-IL), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jim Moran (D-VA), and Gerald Connolly (D-VA).
From the steps of the Capitol to the smallest towns, Public Service Recognition Week is a nationwide public education campaign honoring the men and women who serve our nation as government employees. Celebrated each year during the first week of May, the capstone celebration is a four-day National Mall event featuring more than 100 federal and military agency exhibits showcasing their innovative work.
