PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCES 2010 SERVICE TO AMERICA MEDAL FINALISTS; PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS SHINE SPOTLIGHT ON THE NATION'S TOP PUBLIC SERVANTS
WASHINGTON – The Partnership for Public Service today announced the 32 Service to America Medal finalists – outstanding federal workers who are making high-impact contributions critical to the health, safety and well-being of Americans.
The 32 finalists were honored at a Service to America Medals Capitol Hill breakfast on Wednesday, May 5, as part of Public Service Recognition Week.
The finalists are contenders for eight prestigious Service to America Medals, including Federal Employee of the Year, set to be presented on September 15 at a Washington, D.C. black-tie gala. The Service to America Medals have earned a reputation as the most prestigious awards dedicated to celebrating America’s civil servants.
“Too often the people who do our nation’s work go unnoticed, that’s why the Service to America Medals are so important,” said Max Stier, Partnership for Public Service President and CEO. “They tell the true stories of the remarkable work that our federal employees do each and every day. You’re seeing government at its very best.”
Seventeen of the medal contenders are from the D.C.-metro area; others hail from Boston, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Cleveland, Urbana, IL, Boulder, Denver and Golden, CO, San Francisco, Norman, OK, and Killeen, TX. Two finalists live and work in Afghanistan and one is in Haiti.
The finalists work at the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, Interior, Justice, State, Treasury, the EPA, FAA, FCC, GAO, NASA, NTSB, ODNI and SSA.
The finalists were selected from more than 400 nominations. More information about the program and the 32 finalists is available at servicetoamericamedals.org.
The Service to America Medals program honors the best in our federal workforce and works to inspire a new generation to consider public service careers by sharing the inspiring stories of unsung heroes with the general public. Surveys show that many Americans do not know what the federal government does for them each and every day – or the fact that there are federal jobs available in practically every interest and skill area, in all 50 states and around the world.
