PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE APPLAUDS SENS. DANIEL AKAKA AND GEORGE VOINOVICH FOR INTRODUCING THE "FEDERAL HIRING PROCESS IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 2009"

WASHINGTON – The Partnership for Public Service released the following statement applauding Sens. Daniel Akaka (D-HI) and George Voinovich (R-OH) for introducing legislation that will improve the federal hiring process:

“At a time when Americans are looking to our government for strong leadership, we need the absolute best talent working at all levels of government service.  Federal agencies will be hiring thousands of employees to replace retiring baby boomers, fill mission-critical jobs and implement a national response to the economic crisis.  A smooth, transparent and timely federal hiring process is essential to ensuring that our government has the right people with the right skills working on behalf of the American people.

The Partnership for Public Service applauds Senators Akaka and Voinovich for their leadership in introducing legislation to improve federal hiring – and we urge Congress to make passage of this legislation a top priority.  Making the hiring process more timely, clear and ‘user-friendly’ will encourage more qualified candidates to apply and ensure that the government does not lose much needed talent.

Applying for a federal job should not require the patience of Job and the courage of David.  Thanks to Senator Akaka and Senator Voinovich and their Federal Hiring Process Improvement Act, it may not have to.”
