PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STATEMENT ON FINAL REPORT RELEASED BY THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY AND REFORM
WASHINGTON –Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, today released the following statement in response to the recommendations made in a final report issued by the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.
“There is no doubt that we need an aggressive plan for tackling our national debt. We thank and commend the commission for its bipartisan efforts to promote fiscal responsibility.
Ultimately, though, the goal of reducing costs will best be met by focusing on using resources more prudently, rather than demanding arbitrary headcount cuts. Agency leaders need to be empowered to take thoughtful approaches to help return our nation to economic health. Staff cutbacks might be one option, but creating more efficient processes or eliminating activities altogether might be a better one.”
