Federal Advisor Certificate Program

The Partnership for Public Service is proud to offer the Federal Advisor Certificate program. This program is designed to provide advisors with a comprehensive view of how to:

  • Advise students on federal opportunities
  • Build agency relationships
  • Promote federal service on campus

This is a great professional development opportunity for those interested in providing the latest and greatest information on job search strategies for students interested in public sector careers.


Requirements and Program Content

To receive a Partnership for Public Service Federal Advisor Certificate, advisors must demonstrate a commitment to promoting public service opportunities by:

  • Gaining a command of federal hiring process and opportunities
  • Demonstrating active promotion of these opportunities on campus
  • Establishing the capability and commitment to building agency relationships.

To obtain the certificate, each participant must complete all events in the following three areas.

Webinar Series

Purchase all events in the three areas required to obtain the Federal Advisor Certificate of Completion for $534.00.



Through interactive webinars, participants will gain a better understanding of the federal hiring process, learn how to advise students on federal opportunities and build meaningful agency relationships.

The next Virtual Federal Advisor Training sessions will be held in November 2014.


Advising Students on Federal Opportunities
Tuesday, November 4, 2014, 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. EST
Learn how to navigate the federal hiring process and learn more about student programs, where the jobs are and the federal application process.

Creating Sustainable Programs on Campus
Wednesday, November 12, 2014 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. EST
Discuss ways to promote federal service in cost-effective and sustainable ways by involving the whole campus community and building off what has worked at other campuses.

Building Agency Relationships
Tuesday, November 18, 2014 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. EST
Identify best practices for building agency relationships by leveraging existing college or university relationships and strategically developing new long-term relationships.


The Federal Strategy Package is comprised of a strategy session with Partnership staff and two virtual summits with agency representatives. This package aims to give participants concrete connections with federal agencies and to develop a personalized approach to federal service promotion on campus.

In the virtual summits, agency representatives and Partnership staff will explore topics such as student opportunities in federal service, hiring trends at federal agencies and mission-critical positions. Participants will receive each panelists’ contact information for future discussions and collaboration.

In addition, all campuses will receive an individualized one-hour strategy session with Partnership staff about how to build agency relationships and create a sustainable federal service campaign on campus.


The purchase of this package includes the items below:

Virtual summits
Interact directly with 4–6 agency representatives per summit around the following topics:

  • The Pathways Programs: December 9, 2014, 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. EST
  • Mission Critical Careers in Government: February 17, 2015, 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. EST

One-hour strategy session
Campus representatives can sign up on one of the following weeks. Dates and times of the strategy sessions are determined on a first come first serve basis:

  • Week of December 1, 2014
  • Week of January12, 2015
  • Week of February 9, 2015


This webinar series provides career services professionals with convenient webinars to show to students and alumni looking for federal opportunities.

The GoGovernment webinar series will begin in October 2014.


Go Government: Build a Strong Federal Resume
Tuesday, October 14 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. EDT
Federal resumes differ from traditional resumes in many ways. They can be anywhere from 2-5 pages and require information not normally found on a traditional resume. Join the Partnership staff and agency representatives as we walk you through how to build a federal resume and highlight its essential parts.

Go Government: Stand Out in the Federal Application Process
Tuesday, October 21 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. EDT
Marketable skills such as leadership, networking, communication and teamwork are critical to careers in government, even in technically specific fields. Join agency representatives and Partnership staff for a discussion about how to identify and highlight these intangible skills to give you an edge over the competition for federal internships and jobs.

Cost of Trainings

Purchase all events in the three areas required to obtain the Federal Advisor Certificate for $534.00. If you do not wish to purchase all events, each of the three areas can be purchased individually.

Certificate Terms

For those pursuing the certificate from the same school, each advisor must complete the virtual training (separate registrations) and host the Go Government webinar series in different semesters. Advisors are permitted to participate jointly in the Federal Advisor Strategy Package programming for credit towards the certification.

The certificate of completion is valid for four years for each federal advisor. The period of validity upon completion of the last requirement of the certificate—whether that is the final virtual training, webinar, or component of the second tier programming. After four years, the participant must attend a Federal Advisor Training for renewal of the certificate.

In order to receive a certificate of completion, it is incumbent upon the advisor to notify the Partnership staff by emailing c2strainings@ourpublicservice.org at the completion of the requirements for the Federal Advisor Certificate of Completion. Upon verification of completion, the participant will then be mailed a certificate.

Retroactive Qualification

Retroactive credit will be extended to all who completed the Virtual Federal Advisor Training in June 2014 for the 2014–2015 Federal Advisor Certificate Program. In order to qualify for the fee deduction please contact c2strainings@ourpublicservice.org and specify that you have completed the Virtual Federal Advisor Training in June of 2014.

With the advent of the new Pathways Programs, the Partnership is not able to offer retroactive credit towards a certificate for those who have completed a Federal Advisor Training or the Go Government webinar series before June 2012.
