Call to Serve Webinar Workshop Series

The Partnership for Public Service offers a number of exciting, informative and free or low-cost webinar workshops for students, faculty and career services professionals at colleges and universities across the country. These interactive presentations, which generally last for one hour, cover a wide variety of topics including the the ins and outs of the federal hiring process, where hiring is happening in the federal government and many other topics. Instead of having individual students register, we encourage campus advisors to register for this session and broadcast it to their students and colleagues in a classroom or other venue.

Executive Order 13548 provided directive for agencies in regards to the recruitment and hiring of individuals with disabilities. Hear from representatives from agencies, including the Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP), on how campuses can capitalize on this Executive Order. With special hiring authority available for students and alumni with disabilities, this webinar will explore the many employment opportunities available in federal government and how campuses can work collaboratively to promote these opportunities to students.

The Art of Hosting a Federal Event

Are you interested in hosting a federal event on your campus? Whether you are new to hosting a federal event or are looking for ways to ensure your federal events are having the greatest impact, this webinar is for you. Join us as we discuss cost-effective ways to engage with federal agencies and build meaningful relationships during these budget-constraint times. During the webinar, campuses and agency representatives will share best practices for hosting federal events and explore ways to maximize federal events.

Federal Advisor Trainings

Join the Partnership for Public Service from the comfort of your office for an online Call to Serve Federal Advisor Training. These interactive professional development sessions will equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively advise students on the changing federal job search and application process.

This is an online training course being held on three consecutive Wednesdays starting the end of November. Each course builds off the previous course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Colleges and universities use Federal Advisor Trainings to learn effective advising strategies for students and alums interested in federal careers as well as to build public service champions across campus. These cross-campus teams include representatives from Career Services, Employer Relations, Internship Programs, Departmental Career Services, Faculty, Academic Advisors and Alumni Services.

GREAT RETURN ON INVESTMENT

The cost of the on-line training is $125.00 per registration and includes materials and resources to use on your campus. You can do the training in the comfort of your office.

You will have access to the recording should you not be able to attend the event on one of the dates. The presentation can be heard through your computer or over the phone.

Please note: participants are eligible to receive NBCC ccredits upon successful completion of the training series.

Objectives

  • Learn how to navigate the changing federal hiring process, including student programs, where the jobs are and deciphering federal applications.
  • Identify best practices for building agency relationships by leveraging existing university relationships and strategically developing new long-term relationships.
  • Discuss ways to promote federal service in cost-effective and sustainable ways by involving the whole campus community and building off what has worked at other campuses.
