Federal Advisor Trainings

Host a Federal Advisor Training

Would your campus be a good place to host a regional Federal Advisor Training? The Partnership is looking for applications to host one of six trainings across the country in 2010-11.

Each year federal agencies need to hire more than 100,000 recent graduates and 60,000 interns. Yet, only thirteen percent of career counselors report feeling confident advising students on the federal job search and application process. The Call to Serve Federal Advisor Trainings close the knowledge gap by conducting regional professional development sessions hosted at member campuses.

This is a great way to get more involved with the Partnership, be recognized by agencies and campuses as a leader in the federal employment arena, and professionally develop staff right on campus. In the last two years, 549 advisors from 234 campuses participated in the trainings, and 100% of attendees would recommend the training to a colleague. The success of the trainings was in part due to 11 fabulous host campuses!

Applications must be received by Friday, April 2, 2010.

Host Benefits

Some of the benefits of hosting a training include:

  • Ensuring a Federal Advisor Training comes to your region;
  • Four free training registrations for staff and/or faculty from your campus; and
  • A complimentary 60-90 minute strategy session with your college/university to build support across campus.

What Do Past Hosts Say?

“Being the host of the full day Federal Advisor Training last year was a two-fold opportunity: for the first time 29 colleges in Upstate New York were equipped with the basic knowledge on the federal job process, while, secondly, being given the knowledge base to adequately prepare their students and alumni to not just be applicants, but competitive applicants for federal opportunities.”
Sharitta Gross, Rochester Institute of Technology

 “The best part of hosting the training … included the opportunity to hear from career and academic advisors at other regional universities…All of this combined with the federal agency panel, the training day was well worth hosting.”
-Kari Hamende of Loyola University

“…Our decentralized career centers teamed up to apply for the host role with a goal to facilitate the training and become more informed about public sector employment. As hosts, we not only gained a better understanding of federal employment resources and application processes, but we were able to make great connections…university colleagues from across the region.”
-Robert Vega, University of Texas at Austin
