Kate Walker
President, Young Government Leaders
and Senior Analyst, Strategic Issues, Government Accountability Office

Kate has been a Senior Analyst at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in the Strategic Issues team for over three years. She obtained her Master of Public Policy degree from the American University and received her B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of Virginia. At GAO, Kate has focused on a number of human capital issues including, strategic workforce planning, performance management, attrition and retention, and leadership development.

In addition to working at GAO, Kate is the President of Young Government Leaders, a professional organization consisting of more than 1300 young men and women employed in over 30 federal agencies across the country. Young Government Leaders’ mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the next generation of public service leaders. Kate has participated on a number of panels regarding generational differences for NAPA, the Performance Institute, OPM’s Workforce Conference, and the Federal Executive Board, among others.  She authored two articles for the Public Manager Journal entitled “Talkin’ About My Generation” (Summer 2006, Volume 35, Nr 2) and “Making the Federal Government Work for Women” (Spring 2007, Volume 36, Nr 1).  Kate has been interviewed by Federal News Radio (1050), Federal Times.com, and the Government Executive.
